Spring and summer are prime swarm season in Oklahoma, and residents may occasionally notice a large cluster of honey bees gathering on a tree, fence, mailbox, or other structure.
While a swarm of bees can look alarming, honey bee swarms are generally focused on finding a new home and are often less aggressive than people expect.
If you encounter a honey bee swarm:
✅ Keep a safe distance
✅ Keep children and pets away from the area
✅ Do not spray, disturb, or attempt to remove the bees yourself
✅ Contact a local beekeeper for assistance

Honey bees play an important role in pollination and agriculture, and whenever possible, relocating them is preferred over extermination.
